I got hold of him, but I had to run down several ten feet

before I caught hold of him. I lifted him up out of the

water. I had to go into the water myself first and I was

washed down myself and until I had gone a long distance

I could not get my feet. This was before I got hold of the

boy. I then took him up the side of the nullah and I

carried him on my back to his mother.

I am an accountant employed by

Sidney Bowles, sworn, ds:-

the Military Authorities and I live at 3 D Block Kennedy Road On 22nd June at about 10 past 3 p.m. I was walking up Murray

Path from queen's Road. I had gone about 50 yards 30 yards

above where the nullah goes under ground my attention was

arrested by a crowd on the bridge where the sentry stand.

I looked into the nullah and I saw a European girl being

washed down the nullah under the bridge. I jumped into the

nullah and by the time I was there she was on me. I tried

to hold her but a N.A.A.F.I employee and a European boy

together bumped into me. We were then being all washed down

the nullah. I was lying in the for in of a Y trying to check

progress, head on to the current. Then finding I could not

check progress I tried to lie across the nullah at right

angles. At the deepest point the water was about 20 inches

deep. Then I felt another bump. I don't know what it was.

Mary Pine was washed over my feet- the little boy was washed

over my body. I had recognised the N.a.a.F.I employee and

Mary fine by that time but not the little boy. I recognised

the N..A.F.I employee by his uniform only. When I was lying

in the nullah altogether I felt three bumps.
